How feature tiling is priced
Small herringbone tiles and mosaics take longer to lay than a plain wall tile, and the quote says so. They're priced by the square metre on their own line, so you can see what the pattern adds.

Where the pattern starts
A herringbone or a bond is centred on what you look at: the vanity, the window, the middle of the wall.
Where the veins run
With big veined slabs, the tiles are laid out and checked before fixing, so the veins flow and no two odd tiles end up side by side.
Where the cuts land
Balanced at both ends, with no slivers at corners or around fittings. How we set out.
How the edges finish
Mitred where the tile body matches the face, or a trim that suits the tile where it doesn't. Mitres and trims.

Why does herringbone cost more than a plain tile?
More tiles, more cuts, and every one of them has to hold the pattern. A small herringbone takes a lot longer to lay than a large wall tile, so it's priced on its own line and you can see what it adds.
Can you make the veins line up on marble-look tiles?
We lay the tiles out and check them before fixing, so the veins run the way you want and odd tiles go where they won't stand out. Some ranges are made to continue from tile to tile; we'll tell you if yours is one.
Will my splashback have thin slivers around the power points?
Not if it's set out first. We plan the layout around the power points and switches, so cuts land cleanly. Sometimes that means moving the starting line, and we'll show you before we begin.
Can you supply the tiles?
Either way works. We can supply and deliver the tiles and setting materials, or lay tiles you've chosen. For feature tiles, order a few spare: patterns use more cuts.
